College Rowing Information

University of Cincinnati:

Dear Rower,
My name is Jenna and I am the recruiting chair of the University of Cincinnati Rowing Club. UCRC is a student-run athletic organization and we compete against top schools across the country under the American Collegiate Rowing Association. Since you are a graduating student who may be interested in going to UC and continuing rowing, I wanted to give you some information about our team!
Our crew is composed of a mens and womens team that splits into novice and varsity squads. Each squad is trained by an experienced head coach and assistant who are alumni of the team, and the program has a dedicated full-time director who supports us. We currently have 19 active members. Both novice and varsity crews travel competitively to regional regattas and national championships, at the Head of the Hooch, MACRA, and ACRA for example. The team participates in at least three regattas per semester and a spring break training week in Clemson, SC as well as team fundraising and alumni events throughout the year.
The team trains during the academic year, out of the Little Miami Rowing Center and Cincinnati Rowing Center depending on the weather. Both locations are about 10-15 minutes from campus, and members with cars are always willing to give rides to other members if necessary. Practice is scheduled for 6 times a week with Sundays for rest. We find that this schedule is great for improving technique, discipline, and time management skills.
Although we have the coaches leading the workouts, the athletes run the executive board. They plan logistics for regattas and training camps, manage equipment, run events, and coordinate daily operations. This provides an opportunity for members to gain invaluable leadership experience and ensures that the club supports the needs of the athletes. It’s also a great addition to a resume!
UC Rowing is primarily funded through dues, which are around $650 for first semester and $875 for following semesters. They include all coaching fees, travel and lodging at regattas, uniforms and basic apparel, equipment, facilities, and insurance. The team also has a strong fundraising program where rowers work various events throughout the year to keep dues affordable.
Recent accomplishments of the team include first place at Head of the Ohio from our varsity M2+ as well as two bronze medals at Head of the Hooch from our novice W4+ and varsity W2x. Chris Bak, a previous coach and alumni of our team, has also medaled in 2 events of world coastal rowing among many other achievements in the past year. UCRC’s program is designed to set you up for success even after graduation, so bring the passion and drive to see how far you can go!
More information can be found on our website linked below, along with the recruiting form. If you are interested, fill it out and we will reach out to you! Also, get to know us a bit better through Instagram and TikTok @cincyrowing. Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions through email at recruiting@cincyrowing.org. We hope to see you as a future UCRC bearcat!

Old Dominion University:

I am reaching out about your women’s team.  I wanted to see if there are any athletes that we should consider that would graduate in 2024 or 2025.  We have been in touch with a number of your athletes last year and would love to have some of your athletes matriculate to ODU.

If you wouldn’t mind sharing our recruiting questionnaire link to your team and in particular athletes that are interested in rowing for a Division I varsity women’s program that are currently sophomores and juniors.  I look forward to hearing more from you and your team and wish you the best of luck this season!
